Built in 1893, the Venetian Gothic-style Chicago Athletic Association building long towered over Michigan Avenue and served as a luxurious sporting bastion for the city’s elite gentlemen. Shuttered since 1997, it’s about to become Chicago’s most in inn. The 241-room architectural gem, christened the Chicago Athletic Association Hotel, has been deftly restored by the N.Y.C.-based design firm Roman and Williams, which has given it a contemporary spin.
